Poker Limits Explained

If you’ve never played poker before and you’re still just learning the game, you might not understand what the different limits in poker mean. There are three different limits in poker including no limit, fixed limit and pot limit. Certain games can only be played using certain limits while some poker games out there can be played using any of the three limits. It’s important that you know the difference between limits in poker or else you’re not going to know the rules of the game you’re playing.

· No limit is the most popular way to play poker nowadays because that’s what most pros play on television. In no limit poker you can bet any amount that you want at anytime although you need to make sure when you raise that you bet more than the minimum raise allowed gaming slots.

· Pot limit poker is very popular when you’re playing Omaha poker because the pots become huge very quickly. When you’re playing pot limit poker it means that you can’t bet more than what’s in the pot. If there is $ 100 in the pot, the maximum you’re allowed to bet is $ 100, but other than that there are no other rules on how you can bet.

· Fixed limit poker is most common when you’re playing a home poker game with your friends and you don’t want to be betting too much money. With fixed limit betting rules you’re only allowed to bet the stakes on the table. For instance, if you’re playing $ 10 / $ 20, you’re only allowed betting $ 10 maximum until the turn. Every betting round after the turn the maximum bet moves up to $ 20. If you raise the maximum raise is either $ 10 or $ 20 depending on where you are in the hand and typically you can only raise the pot 4x per betting round.
